Mayor’s Message-Fall 2025
Neighbors and Friends,
As we enter the fall season, I want to take a moment to update you on some of the important work happening across the Village of Avon. One of our key goals as a local government continues to be improving communication, transparency, and community engagement — and this quarterly message is just one small way to keep you informed about what’s taking place in your Village government.
Grants and Funding Initiatives
The Village continues to actively pursue outside funding to reduce the burden on local taxpayers while investing in Avon's future. We recently completed masonry repairs at the north end of the historic Five Arch Bridge thanks to a New York State Historic Preservation grant. In July, the Village submitted six Consolidated Funding Applications totaling over $14 million in requests, including:
Downtown building revitalization ($500,000)
Comprehensive Plan update ($90,000)
Stormwater study ($50,000)
Solar project ($1.99 million)
Wastewater Treatment Plant infrastructure ($10 million)
Triphammer Road water main improvements ($1.5 million)
We were also awarded a $500,000 Local Government Efficiency Grant for the Triphammer Road project and recently applied for water filtration plant upgrades in the amount of $1 million through the Northern Borders Regional Commission. Currently we are finalizing our application to re-apply for the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) — another potential $10 million investment in transformative downtown projects!
Quality of Life and Community Projects
Avon continues to enhance public spaces and amenities. Thanks to a Parks & Trails NY grant, we added a bottle-filling station, pet water station, and waste receptacle along the Erie-Attica Trail—installed just in time for the Greenway Cycle Challenge this fall. Through a Livingston County “First Impression” grant, , we will unveil 30 new downtown banners in early November that highlight historic landmarks in Avon. Our first full season of the Avon Farmers Market at Pocket Park was a tremendous success—thank you to all who supported it! The Village is also preparing future park improvement projects through an upcoming Municipal Parks grant opportunity.
Department Highlights
Our Department of Public Works reminds residents that leaf pickup is underway—please check the website for schedule and guidelines. The Village also continues to offer the “lend-a-truck” program for residents to help with clean-up projects.
In Planning, we continue to see new investment and interest in Avon! This includes site work for a new O’Reilly Auto Parts store on East Main Street (near the Tops Plaza).

Areas in the Village of Avon are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a designated Historic District. To learn more about what this means and how it benefits property owners, visit https://landmarksociety.org/avon.
Lastly, please remember that our Village website — www.villageofavonny.gov — has been improved and is your best resource for news, board minutes, project updates, and department information.
Thank you for your continued pride in our community and for being part of what makes Avon such a special place to live, work, and visit.
Warm regards,
Rob Hayes
